Most valuable lesson you learned at UC: Be proactive during your time in college and cherish the moments you have because it will go by in a flash.
Best tip for young alumni starting their careers: Be patient and do not be discouraged if you get turned down for a job. Use your professors and alumni as a resource to guide you in the right direction when applying for jobs or internships.
Tell me a bit about your family: I grew up in West Islip, NY, with my Mom (Lisa) who is a daycare teacher, my Dad (John) who works for OTB Nassau Downs, my Aunt Karen who is a retired first-grade teacher, my brother (John) who is a high-school English teacher in Manhattan, and my brother (Bryan) who is recent graduate of SUNY Oswego. I was inspired to become a police officer from my grandfather, Peter Woodburn, who was a US Marine in World War II and a NYPD Police Officer.
What are you most looking to gain from your membership in the Metro NYC Regional Alumni Network? I am looking to maintain my close friendships and establish new connections with Utica College alumni. There are many graduates who live in the Long Island, NYC, Westchester area. To be able to coordinate and meet up with individuals in all career fields would be a great opportunity. I am more than willing to guide newer alumni in their career paths, and I hope to seek out guidance from alumni who graduated before me.
