ALFRED, NY-  The Utica College women's soccer team won its fifth straight game Saturday defeating Alfred University 4-1 in Empire 8 Conference action. 

UC improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in conference, while the Saxons drop to 0-7-1 on the year. 

The Pioneers fell behind 1-0 early when Allyson Klopp beat UC goalie Ashley Kaufman (Enfield/Enfield, CT) at 20:50.  Klopp now has two goals on the year. 

UC responded with four unanswered goals to remain undefeated in conference play.  Senior defender Joanne Gueverra (Marshfield/Marshfield, MA) knocked home a Kristen Vasta (Lenox/Lenox, MA) corner kick to open the scoring for UC.  The goal marked the first of the season for Gueverra. Vasta added her second assist of the season on a corner kick that 2006 conference rookie of the year Danielle Smith (Vernon Verona Sherrill/Verona) put in the back of the net less than three minutes later. 
Smith leads the team with 13 points on six goals and one assist this year. 

Smith added her second goal of the evening in the 43rd minute to give UC a 3-1 lead.  Junior Jenn Woldow (Our Lady of Mercy/ Absecon, NJ) netted the third goal of her career to close out the scoring.  Kelly Regan (Massapequa/Massapequa) tallied her second assist of the season on Woldow's goal. 

The Pioneers return to action against visiting Wells College at 4 p.m. Thursday.
