UTICA, NY – Freshman guard Devon Croll tied a career-high scoring 20 points and grabbing eight boards as the Utica College women’s basketball team defeated visiting RIT 63-53 Saturday afternoon in Empire 8 Conference action.

The Pioneers are now 8-3 against RIT dating back to the 2002-2003 campaign. With the win, UC improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference, while the Tigers dropped to 3-3 and 2-2 in conference play.

The game featured seven lead changes and two ties and the Tigers out rebounded UC 46-39. RIT also out scored UC 30-24 in the paint.

RIT led by as many as six points with 8:39 left in the first half, but the resilient Pioneers out scored RIT 13-10 over the next eight minutes and cut the lead to 29-26 at the half.

The Pioneers came out motivated in the second half, beginning with a 3-pointer in the corner from Croll to tie the game up at 29-29 just 11 seconds into the half. UC kept piling on the points and led by as many as 18 points with 4:03 left in the game. UC out scored RIT 37-24 in the second half in route to earning their third straight conference victory.

Four different Pioneers posted double-digits, including Karen Crisanti (Geneva/Geneva) (10), Jessica Berry (Rome/Rome Free Academy) (10), Mallory Davis (Rockville/Vernon-Rockville, CT) (10) and Croll. Crisanti added eight rebounds and four assists, while Berry grabbed nine boards and blocked a game-high three shots.

Brianna O’Dell shot 8-for-25 from the floor, including 4-of-14 from 3-point land to lead the Tigers with 20 points. Danielle Weekes tallied 14 points and grabbed six boards, while Christine Rowinski ripped down 10 rebounds, but shot 0-for-6 from the floor.
