New London, CT (April 19, 2009) – The Utica College women’s water polo team closed out its 2009 campaign with four losses at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Northern Division Championships Saturday and Sunday at Connecticut College. Top-seeded Hartwick College closed out the regular season with a 9-1 record in Northern Division play and they earned the No. 1 seed headed into the East Regional’s at Harvard University on Friday.

With the losses the Pioneers dropped to 2-16 overall this season, but they doubled their win total compared to last season’s 1-23 overall record.

On day one the fifth seeded Pioneers lost two games to No. 4 seed Connecticut College and No. 1 seeded Hartwick College. The Pioneers lost to Connecticut 13-4. Junior Amanda Sulicz netted two goals, while senior Laura Gould returned to the pool and immediately made an impact with two goals. Sophomore goalie Kera Langdon stopped four shots in net for UC.

The Pioneers dropped game two against top seeded Hartwick College 13-5. Senior captain Mary Anne Tomko scored one goal, while teammates Erin Schinasi and Ashley Van Patten each added one goal. Schinasi also registered one assist, while Alyssa Cortese added one helper. Langdon stopped six shots in between the pipes for the Pioneers.

On day two the Pioneers put forth their best effort of the tournament in a 4-3 loss to second seeded Brown University. Sulicz, Arielle Feinstein and Laura Gould accounted for all three of UC’s goals. Feinstein’s goal marked the first-time in program history that every single player on the UC roster has scored at least one goal in a single season.

The Pioneers dropped a 20-2 decision in their final contest of the 2009 season against Harvard University. Amanda Sulicz netted both goals for the Pioneers in the loss.
