SPRING TRIP BOX SCORES

KISSIMMEE, FL – The Utica College softball team completed their week of play down in Kissimmee, Florida with a 4-5 record. Freshman pitcher Kristin Levin (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) pitched in five games and had four complete games, two of them shutouts, in route to a 2-3 pitching record for the week. Junior classmates Andrea Curley (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls) and Kallie Mathis (Adirondack/West Leyden) also recorded wins for the Pioneers on the mound during the week of games. Freshman outfielder Kim Martin (Holland Patent/Prospect) and junior Rinae Olsen (Schalmont/Schenectady) were the top performers at the plate for the trip.

The first win of the trip came on Monday, as UC was able to defeat Suffolk College, 6-0. Freshman Cecily Rowland (Queensbury/Queensbury) gave the Pioneers the early 2-0 lead after she hit a single that scored Olsen and senior Brittany Johnson (Union Endicott/Endicott). Utica College never looked backed as Levin gave up six hits and struck out nine while being credited with her first shutout of the season.

The second win came later that afternoon as Johnson scored a late inning run off of a MCLA error to give the Pioneers a narrow 1-0 victory. Curley pitched all seven innings and earned the shutout while scattering five hits.

After dropping a game to Endicott 5-4, UC was able to rebound in the afternoon game to beat Milikin College, 5-0, behind 2-for-3 days from Martin and Curley. The duo also had two RBI apiece and Curley had a run scored as well. Levin was credited with her second win of the season as well as her second shutout of the week while only allowing three hits and striking out three.

The Pioneers then fell victim to a rainout and two losses over the next two days before rebounding to win their final game against Mt. St. Joe’s, 5-2. Olsen again led UC to victory with her bat by going 2-for-3 from the plate and compiling two RBI in the win. Mathis pitched six and two-thirds inning giving up two runs on five hits while striking out five.

Kristin Levin allowed two runs in 32 innings pitched, good for a 0.44 earned run average. She also struck out 25 batters while scattering 21 hits and walking one. Levin also performed well at the plate, hitting .348 (8-for-23) and scored two runs while adding a triple and an RBI in eight games played. Kim Martin went 6-for-16 from in the batters box good for a .375 batting average. Rowland and junior outfielder Abby Drew (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls) tied for the lead in RBI with four each.

The Pioneers will return to action on Mar. 26 as they host Cazenovia at 3:30 p.m.
