TRIP RESULTS >>>

MYRTLE BEACH, SC- The Utica College softball team went 5-3 on its spring trip down to Myrtle Beach, SC last week. The Pioneers won five of their first six games, but dropped two in the final day.

In day one UC defeated Rio Grande 4-3 and Mt. Aloysious 13-4 in five innings. The Pioneers were no-hit Tuesday in an 8-0 loss to Charleston, but bounced back to defeat Penn State Altoona 10-2 in the night cap. UC went 2-0 in day three defeating Alvernia 7-2 and run-ruling Gordon College 20-10 in five innings. The Pioneers lost their final two games of the trip, falling to Gettysburg 5-3 and Arcadia 7-5.

Junior second baseman Amanda Butler (T.R. Proctor/Utica) led the way for the Pioneers batting a team-best .444 and racking up 12 hits in eight games. She also tallied seven runs scored and six RBI. Senior right fielder Kristen MacDonald (South Coast Sharks/Abington, MA) went 8-for-19 from the dish with five runs scored and five RBI, while shortstop Kourtney Kupiec (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) batted .381 (8-for-21).

Ashley Kaufman (Northern Lights/Enfield, CT) batted .370 and tallied a team-best three stolen bases in the lead-off spot. Anna Solen Westling (Leksand Gymnasium/Leksand, Sweeden) hit .345 as the Pioneers everyday catcher, while Andrea Curley (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls) went 7-for-21 from the plate with a team-high nine RBI, including one home run. Abby Drew (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls) put up strong power numbers on the trip, as she hit .304 with eight RBIs and a team-high two home runs and a .696 slugging percentage.

One the mound, Andrea Curley went 2-2 with a 4.21 ERA with 9 strikeouts. Kallie Mathis (Adirondack/West Leyden) went 3-1 with a 5.11 ERA with 16 strikeouts while holding her batters to a .227 average.

The Pioneers next games were originally scheduled against Skidmore on March 24th and against Russell Sage on March 25th, but they have been postponed due to inclement weather. UC’s next scheduled contest is against visiting Cazenovia on Wednesday March 28 at 3:30 p.m.
