#1 Ashley Kaufman BOX SCORE >>> UTICA, NY – The Utica College women’s soccer team lost to host St. Lawrence University
2-1 in overtime at the Clarkson University Invitational Saturday.
St. Lawrence got out to a 1-0 lead early in the second half when
Katie Oran blasted a long shot that was stopped by UC goalie
Ashley Kaufman (Enfield/Enfield, CT), but
Megan Howard was in the right spot at the right time and knocked home the rebound in the 54th minute.
UC responded right back just under three minutes later when 2006 Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year
Daniele Smith (Vernon Verona Sherrill/Verona) netted her first goal of the season. The goal marked Smith’s seventh of her two year career. Freshman midfielder
Emily Young (Lowville/Lowville) was credited with her first collegiate assist on the goal.
Both goalies stood strong in regulation and the game was extended into overtime before St. Lawrence’s
Lauren Sischo received a quick pass from
Lizzie Bogosian, who turned from 18 yards out and lifted a shot over Kaufman to give SLU the victory.
St. Lawrence out shot UC 18-4 on the day. Kaufman, a former all-conference selection, recorded 12 saves, while
Hayleigh Hockberg made two stops in net for St. Lawrence (1-0).
The Pioneers (0-1) return to action against host Clarkson University Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
