UTICA, NY – The Utica College softball team lost two games to visiting Ithaca College in Empire 8 Conference action at Greenman Field Saturday. The Pioneers lost game one 9-0 in five innings before losing 9-2 in game two.

In the first game, the Pioneers struggled at the plate, only collecting six hits. Ashley Kaufman (Northern Lights/Enfield, CT) went 1-for-3 while Kristen MacDonald (South Coast Sharks/Abington, MA), Rinae Olsen (Schalmont/Schenectady) and Amanda Butler (TR Proctor/Utica) each went 1-for-2.

Andrea Curley (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls) was on the mound for the Pioneers, as she gave up seven earned runs while striking out three batters. She also went 2-for-2 from the plate.

In the second game, the Pioneers struggled at the plate again, only collecting four hits. A second inning two-run home run from Rinae Olsen would be the only scoring the Pioneers would have in the game.

Kallie Mathis (Adirondack/West Leyden) was on the mound for the Pioneers and went six innings, allowing 12 hits, striking out two and allowing nine runs (three earned).

With the losses, the Pioneers record currently stands at 10-9-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the Empire 8 conference.
