#17 Michael Brodhead BOX SCORE Utica, NY (March 25, 2009) - The Utica College men's lacrosse team shut out visiting Wells College 23-0 on Wednesday. UC opened up a 17-0 lead at halftime and never looked back thanks to an offensive explosion fueled by
Michael Brodhead's four goals. The Pioneers out-shot the Express 58-10 in the victory.
The Pioneers even their record at 3-3 overall while the Express drops to 0-3. UC tied the school record for largest margin of victory (23) that dates back to a 24-1 win over SUNYIT on April 30, 2002. The 23-goal performance was the most goals scored by the Pioneers since a 24-7 victory over SUNY Potsdam on March 11, 2005.
UC opened up the scoring 13 seconds into the game and pushed the tempo netting a total of four goals in the opening 4:42, including two of Brodhead’s four goals. The Pioneers would continue the offensive attack scoring eight goals on 20 shots in the first quarter.
UC continued to showcase its offense in the second quarter, scoring nine goals on 20 shots including three goals in a 40 second time frame.
Corey Boulio scored twice in the final 3:48 as the Pioneers opened up a 17-goal lead on the Express. The UC defense smothered every offensive attempt by Wells, holding the Express to only two shots in the first half.
The pace slowed down in the second half with the Pioneers in complete control of the game. The scoring drought continued for the Express in the final 30 minutes of play, despite attempting a team-high seven shots in the third quarter.
Oliver Barney led the way for the Pioneers in the second half scoring two goals (8:00 3Q, 11:02 4Q).
The Pioneers dominated the game collecting 37 ground balls compared to the Express’ 18 and winning 18 of the 26 face-offs. UC also cleared the ball successfully 22 of its 24 attempts and went 1-of-6 in extra-man opportunities. The Pioneers stingy defense held Wells to 0-for-10 shooting and forced 40 turnovers. Goalkeeper

Michael Schepis each tallied a game-high five points while
Kevin Conway added two goals and Aaron Benoit added two assists.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday March 28, at home on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium at 4 p.m. against Oswego.
