#19 Michael Bulger BOX SCORE Utica, NY- The Utica College men’s lacrosse team fell to host Union College
8-4 Sunday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field in the season-opener for both teams.
Following the loss, UC starts the season 0-1 and will return to action on Mar. 5, 2008 for their home opener against Geneseo State at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium at 5:30 p.m.
Union College shot out of the gates strong mounting a four-goal lead in the first quarter with Scott Garibaldi netting two of the goals. Tom Simmons and Ian Hunter also scored for Union in the frame.
The Dutchmen scored two more unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a commanding 6-0 lead. With 5:43 remaining in the half the Pioneers got on the board behind a goal from sophomore
Tanner Stewart. Senior captain,
Kory Buckley was credited with an assist on the goal. Less than two minutes later, sophomore
Corey Boulio registered a second goal for UC to make the score 6-2, in favor of the Dutchmen.
Union answered back with 2:54 left in the half as Chris Collison scored an unassisted goal to give the Dutchmen a 7-2 lead. Sophomore
Michael Bulger scored his first goal of the season with 1:21 left and had to the Pioneers down four goals going into the locker rooms at halftime.
Neither team took control coming out of halftime as the third quarter went scoreless. Union held a 7-3 lead going into the fourth quarter.
The final quarter saw Union scoring first as Brendan Kinnane gave the Dutchmen an 8-3 lead with 9:28 remaining in the game. UC was unable to gain ground on the Union lead as they managed only one more goal behind the stick of senior captain
Dave Misiaszek before the final whistle blew making the final score 8-4.
