#18 Ashley Granger BOX SCORE UTICA, NY – The Utica College women’s soccer team defeated Clarkson University 3-0 at the Clarkson Invitational Sunday.
Danielle Smith (Vernon Verona Sherrill/Verona) tallied her second goal of the season and an assist to pace the Pioneers.
Senior
Tessa Lesar (Mechanicville/Mechanicville) opened the scoring for the Pioneers just eight minutes into the contest. She booted a high shot over the goalie, who then punched the ball up and under the cross bar but into the net. The Pioneers’ took a 1-0 lead on the unassisted goal.
Two –time Empire 8 all conference selection
Ashley Granger (Sutton/Sutton, MA), netted her first goal of the season at the forty nine minute mark. The goal marked the 20th of her three year career. Smith assisted on the breakaway goal that Granger blasted over Clarkson goalie Cait Spaeth’s head.
Granger returned the favor to Smith just over six minutes later when she assisted on the final goal of the game giving UC a commanding 3-0 lead.
UC led in every offensive category, including shots (12-5) and corner kicks (3-0). Senior goalie
Ashley Kaufman (Enfield/Enfield, CT) registered the 17th shut out of her career and her first of the season in the victory. She made one save on the day.
The Pioneers return to action Monday September 10, 2007 against cross-town rival SUNYIT at 4:00 p.m. The game will be played on the Utica College Soccer Field.
