Kyle Tassone (Guilderland/Altamont) scored the game-winner for the Pioneers off a long cross from senior forward
Evan Dufault (Sutton/Sutton, MA) in the 74th minute. Tassone, a freshman defender, scored his first career goal to lift the Pioneers.
UC out shot Roger Williams 18-13 over the course of 90 minutes, while Roger Williams held the corner kick advantage 2-0.
Pioneer goalie
Andrew Miller (Clinton/Clinton), a 6-foot-1 senior, stopped five shots and recorded the seventh shut-out of his career in 90 minutes of work. Goalie
Dan Ruscigno made four stops in net for Roger Williams.
Senior captain
Steve Lachowski (Sutton/Sutton, MA) led the Pioneers with five shots, while classmate
Nick Callahan (Stillwater/Stillwater) tallied four shots of his own. Dufault, a 2006 Empire 8 All-Conference First Team selection, registered three shots.
The Pioneers (1-0) return to action tomorrow against Rhode Island College at 3:30 p.m.
