#7 Karen Crisanti TOURNAMENT RESULTS UTICA, N.Y. – The Utica College women’s volleyball team lost four games this weekend at the Red Dragon Invitational hosted by Oneonta State.
Karen Crisanti (Geneva/Geneva) led all Pioneers with 33 kills and 71 digs in 14 games played.
UC opened the weekend against Fairleigh Dickinson losing in three straight games 27-30, 25-30, 20-30. Crisanti, a senior, led the Pioneers with a game-high 10 kills and fifteen digs. Sophomore
Melissa Austin (Beaver River/Castorland) tallied six kills, two service aces and four digs, while
Andrea Dekker (Reeths-Puffer/Muskegon, MI) posted five kills and fourteen digs.
UC came out hot in their second match of the day against Plattsburgh State winning game one 30-28, but the Pioneers dropped three straight games 21-30, 25-30, 24-30 to fall to 0-2 on the season. Austin posted a team-high 10 kills, while Dekker chipped in with 10 of her own. Freshman setter
Kaitlin Farruggia (Mt. Markham/Leonardsville) posted a career-high 32 assists in the final game of day one.
Day two was more of the same as the Pioneers fell in straight games 16-30, 25-30, 21-30 to Clarkson University.
Brielle Swerdlin (W. Morris Mendham/Chester, NJ) and
Mereoni Vunibobo (Cathedral/Jamaica) each posted four kills, while freshman
Heather Jackson (John Stark/Weare, NH) tallied two service aces.
UC won one out of four games against Oswego St. in the final match of the week. Oswego St, who visits the Clark Athletic Center on October 17th at 7:00 p.m. for a rematch, won 23-30, 9-30, 32-30, 24-30. Crisanti posted a season-high 11 kills and two service aces, while Farruggia posted 23 assists. Dekker chipped in with seven kills.
On the weekend, Dekker and Austin tied for second on the team with 25 kills and Swerdlin posted 15 kills in four games played.
UC (0-4) returns to action Wednesday against visiting Cazenovia College at 7:00 p.m.
