Pioneers Look To Rebound Sunday Utica, NY - The Utica College women's soccer team lost 2-1 in their season opener against Clarkson University Saturday afternoon at the St. Lawrence Invitational.
Clarkson got on the board first in the eighteenth minute on a Jinna Stugart goal assisted by Deana Huntley, but the Pioneers responded just over eight minutes later as Kelly Regan (Massapequa/Massapequa) assisted Kerry Walsh (Franklin/Franklin, MA) off of a free kick to make tie the game up at 1-1.
Karyn Cioppa scored in the seventy fourth minute to secure the lead for the Golden Knights.
Both keepers played outstanding games as Meagan Emlaw made seven saves for Clarkson and Ashley Kaufman (Northern Lights/Enfield, CT) made six saves for the Pioneers. Each keeper played all ninety minutes.
Both teams tallied 11 shots a piece, while Utica could not capitalize on 10 corner kicks.
Utica (0-1) will return to action at 3:30 p.m. Sunday against host St. Lawrence University.
