FIVE PIONEERS NAMED TO ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

Five student-athletes from the Utica College women’s water polo team were named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) 2009 Women’s All Academic Team Wednesday. Mary Anne Tomko earned the highest possible honor by being categorized as “Outstanding” for accumulating a grade point average of 3.71 or higher. Only 19 student-athletes in Division III earned the “Outstanding” distinction.

WEIMER NAMED UC HEAD BASEBALL COACH

Utica College Athletic Director Jim Spartano Friday named Andrew Weimer head baseball coach. Weimer, a New Hartford native, joins the Utica baseball staff as head coach after spending the last six years as a professional baseball player.

KOHANSKI NAMED ECAC ALL-STAR FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON

Sophomore Tammy Kohanski (Syracuse, NY) of the Utica College women’s lacrosse team was named to the 2009 ECAC Division III Upstate Women’s Lacrosse All-Star First Team for the second consecutive season released Tuesday by the ECAC communications office. Kohanski joins 11 other student-athletes from the Upstate region on the First Team and she is one of three repeat selections.
