KAHL TO BE HONORED AS NFF SCHOLAR ATHLETE ON SUNDAY

Senior linebacker Eric Kahl (Lockwood, N.Y.) of the Utica College football team will be honored as a scholar athlete by the Central New York Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame Sunday. 65 other football players from the high school and collegiate ranks around the region will also be honored during the ceremony at Turning Stone Resort. The ceremony, which is expected to be attended by nearly 700 people, will begin at 4 p.m.

BUFFALO STATE TO JOIN EMPIRE 8 FOOTBALL AS AFFILIATE

Buffalo State College will join Empire 8 football starting in 2012 as affiliate members. The Bengals will join Alfred University, affiliate Frostburg State University, Hartwick College, Ithaca College, affiliates Salisbury University and Springfield College, St. John Fisher College, and Utica College.

BENKWITT NAMED ECAC NORTHWEST ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Freshman quarterback Andrew Benkwitt (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) of the Utica College football team was named the ECAC Northwest Football Rookie of the Year released Wednesday by the ECAC communications office. Benkwitt, who was also the first player in program-history to earn Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year status, broke nearly every single-season school passing record including pass completions (200), passing yards (2,375), passing attempts (329), passing touchdowns (19), completion percentage (60.8) and passing yards per game (237.5).
