HONORS CONTINUE TO ROLL IN FOR ASHTON

Sophomore midfielder Avion Candice Ashton (Sixth Form Government/Trinidad) of the Utica College field hockey team was named to the 2009 Longstreth / NFHCA Division III North Atlantic All-Region Second Team released Monday. Ashton, an international student from Trinidad, was also an Empire 8 All-Conference First Team selection for her efforts this past season.

FOUR FIELD HOCKEY PLAYERS GARNER ALL-CONFERENCE STATUS

Four student-athletes from the Utica College field hockey team earned Empire 8 All-Conference recognition released Wednesday by the conference office. Senior defender Shannon Moats (Vernon, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Avion Candice Ashton (Trinidad) earned all-conference first team status, while Erin Murphy (West Winfield, N.Y.) earned honorable mention. Sophomore Morgan Mariano (Oneida, N.Y.) was named the College’s representative on the Sportswoman of the Year Team.

PIONEERS SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE AT #11 SKIDMORE

The Utica College field hockey team (8-9) lost to nationally-ranked No. 11 Skidmore College (14-3) Saturday, 5-1, at Thoroughbred Field. With the loss the Pioneers close out their 2009 campaign with a record of 8-9 overall and 3-3 in Empire 8 Conference play.
