Corey Rando (Vestal/Vestal) pitched a complete game three-hitter as the Utica College baseball team defeated host St. John Fisher 5-2 in game-one of a double-header Saturday at Dugan Yard. The Pioneers lost game two 18-3, while losing both games on Sunday 9-2 and 13-5, respectively.
The Pioneers did their damage in the middle of game one on Saturday, scoring all five of their runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
John Tine (Whitesboro/Utica) went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI while
Mike Bizzari (Auburn/Auburn) went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
On the mound, Rando struck out four and allowed only two earned runs while earning his second win of the season.
The Pioneers would drop the next three games to the Cardinals, 18-3 on Saturday and 9-2 and 13-5 in a double-header on Sunday.
On the weekend, Tine hit .643 (9-for-14) with a double, home run and four RBI. Bizzari hit .417 (5-for-12) with a double and two RBI while
Geoff Stewart (Whitesboro/Marcy) and
Kelvin Cabrera (Hoboken/Hoboken, NJ) each hit .357 (5-for-14) and collected and RBI apiece.
The Pioneers are now 5-17 overall and 1-11 in the Empire 8.
