Jennifer Grotz to Read Excerpt from Her Book The Needle, First Winner of Eugene Paul Nassar Poetry Prize Comes to Utica College
Utica, NY (04/15/2013)- The first winner of the Eugene Paul Nassar Poetry Prize will visit Utica College Thursday, April 25.
Jennifer Grotz, associate professor of English at the University of Rochester, will share a reading from her book, The Needle, which explores both Polish and American twentieth-century poetry and its traditions. Grotz received the Eugene Paul Nassar Poetry Prize in 2012. NPR named The Needle one of the best five books of poetry published in 2011; it was also named the 2012 Best Book of Poetry by the Texas Institute of Letters.
The reading will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Willard Conference Room in DePerno Hall. A reception will follow; the event is free and open to the public.
Submissions are now being accepted for this year. To be eligible, a work must be a book of poems in English, at least 48 pages long, and must have been published between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2013, by a resident of Upstate New York. All books entered in competition will be donated to the Utica College library and the Utica Public Library.
