Freshmen, Transfer Students to Share Welcome Weekend
Written By Victoria Lamanna '15, PR Intern
New students have the option of "themed" housing
Utica, NY (08/21/2013)- Utica College’s Welcome Weekend will offer freshmen and new transfer students a smooth transition into campus life.
The Welcome Weekend will kick off with Move-In Day on Friday, Aug. 23. Freshmen and transfer students will move to their new homes at UC with the help from a slew of volunteer faculty and staff, including Dr. Todd S. Hutton, the college president. These volunteers will be available to help move items into the residence halls, as well as direct students to their rooms.
New to UC this semester is the option of themed housing. First-year students can choose to live in one of four themed houses, UCreate, for students who are interested creative and performing arts, ULive, for students who are interested in biology and other sciences, UBalance, for students who are interested in health, wellness and better living, and UDiscover, for students who are interested in exploring the world of learning and opportunity while meeting fellow pioneers.
Throughout the weekend, several on-campus organizations will help the new students get to know the campus, as well as other students through sponsored events, such as movies, ice cream socials, a trip to Destiny USA, and more. Freshmen and transfer commuter students are also invited to attend the events.
Returning students will move in on Sunday, Aug. 25, and will also take part in a week of welcoming events such as a “drive in” movie on the football field, improv comedy show, dance party and mechanical bull ride challenge.
All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the Convocation ceremony on Monday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. in the Harold T. Clark Athletic Center, followed by a BBQ on the lawn behind the Strebel Student Center. This will conclude the Welcome Weekend and will signify the official start of the semester.
