Martinique’s Uniqueness: The “Braiding” of Cultures “The Caribbean” and “France” are not often thought of in the same sentence, but exploring the island of Martinique provides a wonderful opportunity to juxtapose French, African, and Indian traditions. My recent visit to this island moved me to further investigate the rich history and complex present of this island in relation to the fascinating narratives of its people and their cultures.
