Securing The College's Future
Priority IV: Unrestricted Annual Giving
A Future In Trust

To realize its full potential, an independent institution must maintain a secure, reliable foundation of financial support. Utica College is no exception. More than many private colleges, UC relies upon alumni, parents, and friends to provide the resources necessary to fulfill its mission on a daily basis. For these key stakeholders, annual giving is a concrete expression of their trust in the institution and their abiding commitment to its continued strength.
As has been the case since its founding, Utica College remains heavily dependent on tuition and fees as the principal source of its operating revenue. This places an undue burden on student enrollment and severely limits its ability to maintain or enhance academic and co-curricular offerings. Only a robust program of broad-based annual giving can lend the College sufficient flexibility to sustain its tradition of academic excellence, take advantage of emerging opportunities, and meet unexpected challenges, year in and year out.
A Plan For Growth As a key priority in
Achieve: A New Dream, A New Era, Utica College’s goal will be to significantly expand annual giving, broadening the foundation’s base and enhancing support for the College’s most pressing needs. Growth of the Annual Fund over time will enable Utica College to build capacity in the following key areas:
Affordability – Keeping the cost of a UC education within the reach of low to moderate income families
Faculty and Staff – Attracting and retaining the most talented professors and support personnel
Research Funding – Providing the resources for faculty and student research that enhances the learning experience and contributes to knowledge
Living and Learning Environment – Improving and enriching the physical setting for the UC experience
UC will focus both on current needs as well as the implementation of a comprehensive strategic effort to:
Dramatically increase unrestricted dollars as a percentage of the annual operating budget
Increase the proportion of UC’s alumni community who actively support the College on an annual basis
Greatly increase both donors and unrestricted gifts at the leadership level ($1,000) or above
Foster leadership among annual foundation supporters for long-term major giving toward ongoing capital priorities
Build and sustain volunteer engagement in annual support programs
