FUNDING:

2008Utica College Faculty Sabbatical for Scholarly Activity
(1-semester leave)
For identification and quanitification of diatoms within a core from Fourth Lake of the Fulton Chain in the south-central Adirondack Mountains to assess if and how climate change has impacted the lake since the Little Ice Age.
2006

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation ($1,800) For grain size analysis and slide preparation for identification and quanitification of diatoms within cores from Brooktrout and other Lakes to assess acidification and possible recovery.

2004National Science Foundation; OCE Marine Geology & Geophysics ($43,787) Part of a multi-institutional collaboration (> $690,000 total) to assess the mechanisms, source areas and implications of millennial ice-rafting events in the South Atlantic and Indian Oceans. My role in the study consisted predominantly of stereoscopic examination and quantification of coarse lithics; other researchers focused on oxygen isotopic and other geochemical analyses.  * With colleagues at University of Florida, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and University of California Santa Cruz.
2003
Faculty Utica College Summer Research Fellowship ($2,500)
To collect & analyze sediment cores from Adirondack lakes to assess cultural eutrophication & acidification; this pilot study (still in progress) served as the basis to complete a proposal to NSF.
2000...Faculty Leadership Fund, Utica College ($100-700 annually) Competitively-awarded travel funds to attend and present research at professional conferences.
2000Dean's Fund Small Research Grant, Utica College ($200) Ice-Rafted Debris in South Atlantic Sediments of Marine Isotopic Stage 11: A Potential Analogue for Antarctic Ice Sheet Response to Modern Global Warming.
1999Geological Society of America Competitive Grant for Graduate Student Research ($2,000) To obtain radiocarbon dates on South Atlantic sediment cores.
1998Joint Oceanographic Institutions/United States Science Support Program ($22,557) Late Pleistocene Accumulation of IRD in the Atlantic Sector of the Southern Ocean.
