Utica, NY (05/10/2006) -    Utica College President Todd Hutton is the newest member of the Central Upstate Regional Alliance.
The Alliance is a 12-county, public-private economic development consortium that seeks to transform the regional economy. Developed by members of the Essential New York Initiative Steering Committee, the Alliance builds strategies for regional growth that focus on technology development and the attraction and retention of talented workers. The Initiative grew out of the Metropolitan Development Association of Syracuse and Central New York, which assists companies that are interested in relocation or expansion in Central Upstate New York.
Hutton’s appointment marks the third representative for Oneida County, and the 38th member of the Regional Alliance.
Hutton was chosen for this position because of his active interest in economic and community development, both in the Mohawk Valley and on a regional scale. He currently serves on the boards of directors of the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce, United Way of the Greater Utica Area, The Commission for Independent Colleges and Universities, and Faxton/St. Luke’s Healthcare. He served as president of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference from 2002 to 2005. In addition, Hutton has served on the organizing committee of the Griffiss Institute for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity, and is currently the chair of its board.
Before coming to Utica College, Hutton was vice president for academic administration at Willamette University in Salem, Ore., and the assistant to the president of Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
Hutton earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Davidson College, a master’s of education in school psychology/psychological foundations from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in education from Duke University in 1982.
