Utica, NY (08/20/2015) - The most pervasive and costly threats to businesses—both large and small— are cybercrime and cyberspying. For the first time ever, the Northeast Cybersecurity and Forensics Center at Utica College will offer a cybersecurity course for managers, supervisors and administrative-level employees seeking a better understanding of cybersecurity risks, policies and internal controls within a business setting.

The three-day course, taught by UC cybersecurity experts, qualifies attendees for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and will cover a wide range of topics including cyber threats and vulnerabilities, operating systems, cryptography, computer forensics, cyber attacks, firewalls, risk assessment, policies and access control.

A report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies found that cybercrime and cyberspying cost the U.S. economy over $100 billion annually and still 90 percent of small and medium-sized businesses don’t use data protection for their customer and company information.

"The continued rise in data breaches has led to growing cybersecurity regulations demanding strict compliance. The cybersecurity training course will help managers and supervisors better understand how to identify and oversee their organization’s cyber vulnerabilities and needs," said Anthony Martino, director of the Northeast Cybersecurity and Forensics Center at UC.

The course will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 22 and conclude on Thursday, Sept. 24. Training sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily in Carbone Auditorium located in UC’s Economic Crime and Justice Studies Building. Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack will be included.

The cost of the training is $1,200 per participant. Members of the New York Bankers Association receive a 10 percent discount. Discounted rates are available for businesses sending four or more attendees.
