Ceremonies to Take Place May 16, 17

689 Undergraduate, 650 Graduate Students Complete Studies

Utica, NY (04/27/2015) - After years of hard work, 689 undergraduate and 650 graduate students will walk across the stage to receive their much-anticipated diplomas at Utica College’s 66th Undergraduate Commencement on Sunday, May 17 at 9:30 a.m. and 66th Graduate Commencement on Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m.

During UC’s 66th Undergraduate Commencement ceremony, award-winning journalist, best-selling author, and television news anchor Gwen Ifill will give the keynote address. Ifill is the co-anchor on “the PBS NewsHour with Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff” and is the moderator and managing editor of “Washington Week.” Ifill has worked for publications such as the Baltimore Evening Sun, The Washington Post, The New York Times and NBC News. She has covered seven presidential campaigns, moderated vice presidential debates, and was named one of Ebony Magazine’s “150 Most Influential African Americans.”

At the ceremony, Ifill will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters honorary degree presented by Kim B. Landon, professor emerita of public relations and journalism.  The ceremonies will take place at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

The valedictorian of the undergraduate class of 2015 is Jared Platt from Camden, N.Y., earning a degree in economic crime investigation with a minor in economics. The salutatorian is Colleen Bierstine from Newton, N.J., who will earn a bachelor’s degree in public relations.

Presenting the graduate commencement address will be Jeremy W. Earl ’13, PT.  Earl is he executive director of The Root Farm in Sauquoit, N.Y., where he is responsible for the development and oversight of various equestrian, agriculture and recreational programs. In addition, Earl serves as the associate vice president for therapy services at Upstate Cerebral Palsy in Utica where he supervises more than 60 therapists in a variety of program areas. In 1999, Earl earned his bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from UC, and later his master’s degree in health care administration in 2013.

The graduate ceremonies will be held at The Stanley.
