Utica, NY (04/23/2015) - The work of five Utica College history students will be on display during the 16th Annual History Project Symposium on Saturday, April 25.

The public is invited to learn more about the history of the Mohawk Valley during the daylong symposium beginning at 10 a.m. in Macfarlane Auditorium, DePerno Hall, on the Utica College campus.

The History Project Symposium is a culmination of the history major’s two-semester research course that looks into the history of the Utica area.  The theme of this year’s symposium is, "Connecting the East and West: Traversing, Networking, and Infrastructure in the Mohawk Valley.” The students’ research will explore how the Mohawk Valley served as a major connection to larger national and continental trade and travel networks.

The research will be presented in two panels, presented in chronological order. Dr. Sherri Cash and Dr. Kathryn Silva, members of the history faculty, will chair the two panels. Lunch will be served between presentations.

Utica College’s major in history offers a broad and flexible liberal arts program, helping students to gain an understanding of the human condition through its historical development. The history major prepares students for careers in education, government service, historical and museum studies, public administration, law and more. UC also has a student-run history club, which is open to all students with an interest in history.

The event is free and open to the public. Contact Dr. Peter De Simone with any questions at ptdesimo@utica.edu.
