Lowered Ears Raise Dough for Children's Cancer Research

Head-Shaving Event at UC to Benefit St. Baldrick's Foundation

Utica, NY (03/26/2015) - Every three minutes, another child in the United States is diagnosed with cancer. St. Baldrick’s Foundation seeks to find a cure for cancers that affect one in every 285 children.

On Friday, March 27, Utica College’s Psychology-Child Life Society will host a St. Baldrick’s Day head-shaving event beginning at noon in the Ellen Knower Clarke Lounge in the Strebel Student Center. Shavees will show their support for kids with cancer, both literally and figuratively, by shedding their hair and raising money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

Hosted by the Psychology-Child Life Society at the college, parents and children from the community are invited to attend and interact through a series of games and contests.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.

Utica College’s psychology - child life major is an interdisciplinary program that enhances students’ understanding of children, adolescents, and their families in preparation for rewarding careers that focus on child growth and development. Graduates have found careers in hospitals, schools, child care and many other social service and health care settings.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can make checks payable to The St. Baldrick’s Foundation; donations can be dropped off at the event throughout the afternoon on Friday.
