Utica, NY (02/18/2015) - On Thursday, Feb. 19, Film@UC will present the award-winning 2013 film “Great Beauty.”

After writing a famous novel in his twenties, Jep Gambardella spends much of his time enjoying Rome’s high life. A fixture of the city’s lavish nightlife, he is well known in literary and social circles and is living what some would call “the good life.” But, as Jep’s 65th birthday arrives, he begins to take stock of his life and open his eyes to the beautiful city that surrounds him.  The film is a story of discovery and unfulfilled desires, told through vivid imagery in a historic city. As the story goes on, Jep reflects on his life and in doing so, discovers the true magic of everyday life.

Premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, the film was screened in competition for the Palme d’Or, the highest award at Cannes. “Great Beauty” earned the award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, as well as the Golden Globe and British Academy of Film and Television award in that category.

This film is free and open to the public, and will be shown in the Macfarlane Auditorium in the college’s DePerno Hall at 7 p.m. For more information, call (315) 792-3047 or visit utica.edu/culture.
