Family's Struggle to Rise from Poverty

Utica, NY (01/27/2015) - On Thursday, Jan. 29, Film@UC will present the 2013 film “Metro Manila” that was awarded the World Cinema Dramatic audience award at the Sundance Film Festival.The film centers around a man named Oscar Ramirez. He hopes to save his family from a life of poverty in the rice fields of the northern Philippines by working in the city. Ramirez soon realizes that his new job is dangerous, and he gets sucked into a world of scheming and corruption.
Winner of the British Independent Film Award for Best Achievement in Production, this crime fiction-thriller captivated audiences with its spellbinding portrayal of a family’s rise from poverty.
