Utica, NY (10/01/2014) - Gary Leising, professor of English at Utica College, recently published his full-length collection of poems, “The Alp at the End of My Street.”

Leising’s book received the 2012 Brick Road Poetry Prize. He adds this new book to his accomplished list of published works, including the chapbooks “Temple of Bones” and “Fastened to a Dying Animal.”

“’The Alp at the End of My Street’ is full of happily disconcerting shifts between humor and high seriousness, and it is rich with daring but agreeable leaps of imagination that surprise and delight,” said author Andrew Hudgins. “Leising’s intelligence, good humor and common sense light up every poem in this outstanding collection.”

Leising’s work has appeared in many literary journals and his poems have been featured on the National Public Radio daily show “The Writer’s Almanac.” He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton, a master of fine arts in creative writing from the University of South Carolina, and a doctorate in English from the University of Cincinnati, joining UC in 2005.

Most recently, Leising was honored with the prestigious Clark Award, an honor presented to a UC faculty member who has a distinguished record of scholarship and professional accomplishment and the potential for further excellence. The award is named for Harold Thomas Clark Jr., a former member of the Utica College Foundation and past chair of the Utica College Board of Trustees who established the fund to recognize and encourage faculty creative accomplishments. Leising was presented with the award at the 2014 Convocation Ceremony in late August.
