Utica, NY (10/01/2014) - Utica College’s Accelerated Second Degree Nursing program (ASDN), which has garnered tens of thousands inquiries since its inception, will host two open houses for prospective students on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Across the country, notably in New York State, the shortage of nurses is growing rapidly as baby boomers reach the age of retirement and the need for health care increases. By 2022, the shortage is expected to exceed one million. The ASDN program, one of the first of its kind in the state, was designed to combat this shortage.

The ASDN program is an innovative 16-month hybrid of online study and hands-on clinical experience for individuals who hold a non-nursing bachelor’s degree and decide to seek a second career in nursing. At the open houses, attendees will learn about the program and its innovative learning approach, tour Utica College’s Liverpool site and meet with faculty and staff.

Utica College’s ASDN program is approved by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Learning and is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Utica College is host to an entire suite of nursing programs, including a campus-based undergraduate program, an online RN to BS program and the ASDN program in two locations, Liverpool, N.Y. and St. Petersburg, Fla. Nursing students across all three learning platforms have garnered several prestigious honors and achievements, including inductions into the esteemed Sigma Theta Tau (STTI) International Honor Society of Nursing.

The Liverpool site is located at 290 Elwood Davis Road, Suite 305.
