Utica, NY (09/21/2014) - Utica College will hold a Dedication of Memorial Trees in memory of longtime employees Greg Roberts and Kathy Warzala on Monday, Sept. 22.

Roberts worked in the Clark Athletic Center from 1989 to 2003, and then returned in 2005 to work until 2013. During his tenure at the college, Roberts was a jack of all trades. He served as pool operator, building supervisor and equipment manager for all of the college’s sports teams. Roberts will also be remembered for singing his rendition of the national anthem at UC sporting events.

In 1992, Roberts won the Secretarial, Clerical and Technical (SCT) Award, which recognizes the winner for his or her attitude, conscientious/flexibility, reliability and initiative. He was nominated once more in 2012. In Roberts’ memory, UC established the Greg Roberts Award for Athletics. He passed away on Oct. 13, 2013 at age 72.

Warzala was a UC graduate who earned her bachelor’s degree in biology/education in 1978. In 2001, she started working in UC’s School of Health Professions and Education. She was promoted to administrative assistant in the Office of Financial Affairs in 2007. Even after retiring, Warzala returned to UC many times to fill in at the Clark Athletic Center and the Office of the President.

Warzala passed away in January at age 57 due to a stroke. She is survived by her husband Steve, her son and daughter, Steve and Jennifer, and two grandchildren.

The Dedication of Memorial Trees will begin at 3:30 p.m. with opening remarks by President Todd S. Hutton. It will take place between the Frank E. Gannett Memorial Library and F. Eugene Romano Hall. Refreshments will follow in the Library Concourse.

The Utica College community also lost Professor Thomas Brown this past year; a dedication in his memory will take place at a later date.
