Beautiful Scenes Tell Story of Classic Underdog
Film@UC Presents "Grisgris"

Utica, NY (09/03/2014) - On Thursday, Sept. 4, Film@UC will present the 2013 film “Grisgris,” an awarding-winning piece shown at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.The film centers on a young man named Grisgris. He aspires to be a dancer, despite a paralyzed leg but his dreams are dashed when his uncle falls ill. Facing mounting medical bills, Grisgris takes up petroleum smuggling and becomes embedded in a lifestyle of crime.
Nominated for the Palme d’Or, the top award at Cannes, the film was renowned for its beautifully lit scenes and colorful backdrops. These distinctions earned “Grisgris” the Vulcan Award for superior technical qualities. Gripping images and vibrant scenes highlight this tale of an underdog giving up his ambitions to try to scratch out a living.
