Utica, NY (09/01/2014) - Painter and sculptor John Lyon Paul’s exhibit “Spun From Light, Woven in Silence” will open on Saturday, Sept. 6 in Utica College’s Edith Langley Fine Barrett Art Gallery as a part of the Fall 2014 Cultural Events series.

Paul will also give a talk about his work on Wednesday, Sept. 17 as a part of the Professor Harry F. and Mary Ruth Jackson Lunch Hour Series.

"Looking at John Lyon Paul’s paintings, we intuit a set of procedures and a language of form, but above all we glimpse the new worlds he conjures which distantly reflect our own,” said John Mendelsohn, art critic and writer for ArtNet and Internet magazine.  “In his sculptures, the artist is deeply connected to the world we know, honoring our communal sense of both tragedy and hope. Paul creates sculptural devices that orient us to this axis of human experience."

The opening reception for the exhibit will take place on Sept. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. It is free and open to the public.

Paul’s talk will take place at 12:30 p.m. in Macfarlane Auditorium, DePerno Hall. It is free and open to the public.
