Utica, NY (12/04/2013) - On Dec. 6, the Womyn’s Resource Center at Utica College, in conjunction with the UC Student Senate, will host a benefit for The Clean Slate Diaries, an organization that helps survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence.

The benefit, along with several other events and programs, is part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, an international campaign observed on the UC campus. It started on Nov. 25, the International Day Against Violence Against Women. During the 16 days, members of the UC community are calling attention to the violation of human rights due to gender violence through activities including a day of silence, rally, speak-out and a viewing of the film, “The Invisible War.” The campaign will conclude on Dec. 10, International Human Rights Day.

The Clean Slate Diaries, founded in 2000 in Syracuse, partners with colleges, high schools and other organizations to raise awareness of sexual abuse and domestic violence through events and community productions. Blythe Bennett, a board member of the Clean Slate Diaries and assistant director of the media program at Syracuse University, will give keynote remarks at the benefit at UC. Information on gender violence issues will be available and gift baskets will be raffled off. Hors d’oeuves and refreshments will be served.

The benefit will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Library Concourse at UC. It is free and open to the public, but donations to the Clean Slate Diaries will be accepted. For more information about the event, call (315) 792-3327.
