Studying the ecosystem using new technology
Utica, NY (10/21/2013)- Kristen Brubaker, assistant professor of environmental studies at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, will give a seminar “Estimating canopy height and site productivity of deciduous forests at a regional scale with leaf off, low density LiDAR” today.
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is increasingly being used to improve understanding of forested ecosystems on a broad spatial scale. By using freely available low-density leaf off LiDAR and software, Brubaker was able to establish methodology to create an accurate statewide tree height model for State Forensics in Pennsylvania.
The lecture will take place at 4 p.m. in Donahue Auditorium in UC’s Gordon Science Center. A reception will be held immediately afterward. The lecture is free and open to the public.
