UC Community Invited to Hear Richard Florida Speak

Florida Founder of the Creative Class Group

Utica, NY (09/04/2013) - The Utica College community can receive free tickets to hear Richard Florida, founder of the Creative Class Group, speak at The Stanley on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.

Florida is well known for his thought-provoking research indicating that communities flourish through small businesses, arts and diversity. His work provides data-driven insight into the social, economic and demographic factors that drive the 21st century world economy. His ideas on commercial innovation and regional development have been featured in major ad
campaigns from Apple and BMW.

Senior editor for "The Atlantic," Florida has contributed to CNN, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, The Economist and Harvard Business Review. He is director of the Martin Prosperity Institute and professor of business and creativity at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and he had held professorships at George Mason and Carnegie Mellon universities.

The Stanley's doors will open at 6 p.m. with an interactive event featuring the area's most creative organizations and entrepreneurs; Utica College's Northeast Cyber Forensic Center will be on-hand to demonstrate leading edge technologies used to secure computer systems and networks and how a computer forensics investigation is conducted.

A limited number of free tickets to this special presentation are available to members of the UC community until noon on Friday, Sept. 6. To reserve a ticket, stop by the Office of Student Activities, located in Room 103, Strebel Student Center, or call 792-3037. Tickets may also be obtained until the day of the event via ticketmaster.com, The Stanley box office or by calling the box office at (315) 724-4000.

Faculty, staff and students can take advantage of free bus transportation from campus to The Stanley and back. To reserve a seat on the bus, sign up through the Office of Student Activities no later than noon on Friday, Sept. 6.
