UC Celebrates Homecoming 2012


Alumni, Family Weekend Offering More Than 25 Events

Utica, NY (10/11/2012) - The time has come again for Utica College to celebrate its annual Alumni and Family weekend this Friday (Oct. 12) through Sunday (Oct. 14). Homecoming festivities will begin Friday evening.

Some weekend highlights include the Homecoming football game, where Utica College will take on Frostburg State at 2 p.m. Saturday in Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. A pre-game tailgate party and barbeque will be held outside of the stadium, beginning at 11:30 a.m. In the evening, fireworks will light up the sky from the athletic grounds at approximately 9:30.

UC Theater and the Players of Utica will present “Fighting and Dancing with Shakespeare,” a showcase of the playwright’s best work. The performances will take  place Thursday, Oct. 11 through Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. in Strebel Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students with ID, $12 for seniors and $14 for adults and will be available at  the door, with general admission seating.

There will be a sneak preview of Saturday’s carnival on Friday from 9 to 11 p.m. on the lawn behind Strebel Student Center. The Inter Greek Council will host a Casino Night open to all ages in Ralph F. Strebel Student Center from 9:45 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Saturday’s events will include the women’s lacrosse Alumni game starting at 10 a.m. on the practice soccer field and will continue with lunch in the Bull Family Board Room, Bell Hall. At 10:30 a.m. the women’s field hockey team will play St. John Fisher in Gaetano Stadium. At 11 a.m. there will be a Health Professions and Education Pot Luck Tailgate Gathering proving opportunities to network with alumni, faculty and current students, followed by the football game beginning at 2 p.m.

Starting at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday there will be a Public Relations/Journalism Reception/Mixer for all alumni, families and friends in the Library Concourse. The PR/J community will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Tangerine newspaper, a PRSSA Reunion, and the retirement of PR/J Professor Kim Landon ’75. Heavy hors d’oeuvres, dinner stations, and a cash bar will be available to guests. The Utica Camera Club Exhibit in the Edith Langley Fine Art Gallery will also be open for viewing during this time.

The tradition continues on Saturday at 10:30 p.m. with Pub Night in the remodeled Pioneer Pub located in Ralph F. Strebel Student Center with drinks, pub food, and songs from every era of alumni.

Homecoming weekend will come to a close on Sunday after the Alumni Awards Breakfast at 9:30 a.m. in the Harold Thomas Clark Jr. Athletic Center.

Registration and information will be available for alumni in Strebel Student Center from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
