UC Students Raise Funds for Sexual Violence Victims, Awareness
V-Day at UC Presents "The Vagina Monologues" This Weekend

Utica, NY (02/09/2012) - V-Day at Utica College will perform “The Vagina Monologues” on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m. in Strebel Student Center Auditorium.The “Vagina Monologues” is an episodic play written by Eve Ensler. The show ran off Broadway in 1996. In 1998, Ensler along with Willa Shalit, a producer of the Westside Theater production, launched V-Day, a global non-profit movement that has raised over $75 million for women’s anti-violence groups through the benefit of this play

Tickets are available at the door and are $5 ($3 with a UC ID); proceeds will benefit V-Day initiatives, including the 2012 spotlight campaign on the women and girls in Haiti. The spotlight will highlight the increase in levels of sexual violence against females since the devastating earthquake in January 2010.
Funds will also benefit the Forsaken Generation and the Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network (RAINN). The Forsaken Generation, based in Syracuse, is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers that will utilize their resources in order to locate, stabilize and improve the lives of homeless children as well as children impacted by domestic child sex trafficking throughout the United States.
RAINN, the largest anti-sexual assault organization in the nation, operates the national sexual assault hotline and the online hotline. It offers free and confidential services educates the public about sexual assault, leads the national efforts to prevent sexual assault, and improves services to victims to ensure that rapists are brought to justice.
