UC to Celebrate International Student Day

Flag Ceremony Welcomes Students from Nine New Countries

Utica, NY (11/16/2011) - Utica College will celebrate its diverse population by welcoming nine new countries to its campus at the International Student Day celebration, Thursday, Nov. 17 at 12 noon in the Ellen Knower Clarke Lounge, Strebel Student Center.

The celebration will commence with the traditional flag ceremony, led by Provost Judith A. Kirkpatrick, accepting the new countries’ flags on behalf of Utica College.  The international fair will follow the ceremony, featuring food samples from the nine new countries welcomed to UC.  The event will be co-hosted by the Utica College Universal Club, whose purpose is to involve the Utica College community in learning about new cultures and heritages by bringing both international and American students together as one in the UC environment.  Many additional student organizations will be present as well to celebrate the rich diversity of cultures present at Utica College.

New this year, Student Activities is hosting a “Global Challenge.”  UC students will have the opportunity to answer questions about the countries featured in the flag ceremony, and a correct answer will grant a stamp in the student’s “UC Passport.”  Completed passports will be pooled, and a winner selected at random will win an all-inclusive spring break trip for two to the Dominican Republic.
