Utica, NY (09/12/2011) - The office of career services at Utica College will host a volunteer fair Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Library Concourse.Representatives from more than 30 agencies from the greater Utica area will be present to meet with faculty, staff, students and the public. Volunteer opportunities in human and health services, management, public relations, computer technology and more will be available.
Halina A. Lotyczewski, assistant director of career services, said that the career fair is for the Utica College community, as well as the general community. She said the career fair is beneficial for all who participate on many levels.
“The fair is ideal for networking and we are always emphasizing the importance of that in our office,” Lotyczewski said. “You never know whom you're going to meet. In addition volunteering is really good for building your resume and for gaining experience.”
Jeff Parker of the American Red Cross has had several students participate as volunteers and interns and sees volunteering as very beneficial for everyone.
“The volunteer fair has been very effective,” Parker said. “We have been getting students to work at blood drives. I’ve worked very closely with several student interns. Our volunteers and interns generally come from the schools.”
