Utica, NY (04/27/2011) - Four Utica College students have made it to the final round in Price Chopper’s Ultimate Innovation Competition. They will present their work tomorrow (April 28) in hopes of taking home the $8,000 grand prize. The competition is a contest for students to develop an original and innovative concept for Price Chopper to use in their retail operations, supply chain management, marketing or human resources. Prizes awarded to the top six teams range from $2,000 to $8,000.
The team consists of junior Matthew Gonyea from Dolgeville, senior Zachary Siegel from Rock Hill, freshman Michael Sullivan from Clifton Park and junior Meagan Suwek from Marcy, all risk management and insurance majors. Their advisor is Pamela Hurley, assistant professor of risk management and insurance.
More than 50 teams of undergraduate and graduate students in Price Chopper’s marketing area submitted proposals to executives in February; approximately 20 teams moved on to round two, where they had to submit a 15-page paper that expanded on their proposal. UC’s team was selected for one of the final six slots.
The team will present their concept to Price Chopper executives at their main office in Schenectady.
