Utica, NY (04/12/2011) - Utica College will hold its annual Student Research Conference. The event will take place on Wednesday, April 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Economic Crime, Justice Studies and Cybersecurity building. The presentations are free and open to the community, and refreshments will follow.Prior to the student presentations, Provost Judith Kirkpatrick will give welcoming remarks in the auditorium and Gary Leising, associate professor of English, will be this year’s opening speaker.
After the opening remarks, attendees will split into different rooms for different presentations. Fourteen students will be presenting from various fields.
Presentations include “The Effects of Artificial Night Lighting on Salamander Tail Regeneration” by Meagan Sudik; “Proliferation of Stem Cell Derived Cardiomyocytes by Neuregulin” by Alyssa Cortese; and “Compatibility of Existence: Religion and Experience in the Modern World” by Josh Zotta.
Jennifer Yanowitz, assistant professor of psychology, said that the conference is open to students with works in progress, non-empirical papers and poster presentations.
“We want as many students involved as possible,” she said. “It’s a good experience for them to present their work in a supporting environment and to get feedback on that work.”
She said that many students believe the conference is mainly for science presentations, but wants students to know that it is open to everyone.
“We try to expand [the conference] to qualitative studies, empirical, non-empirical, and creative works,” Yanowitz said. “We try to be as inclusive as possible.”
