Utica, NY (03/24/2011) - Despite the effects the recession has had on nearly every industry, the world will always need teachers. To satisfy that need, Utica College will host its annual Graduate Education Open House on Tuesday, March 29.

With an award-winning curriculum that offers study options in eight distinctly high-demand areas of teaching, UC's graduate programs in education provide comprehensive preparation for a broad range of career-track opportunities. And although the current economic state may be a deterrent, Lois Fisch, professor and director of education, believes now is as good a time as ever to earn a master’s certification in education.

“Even though a lot of job markets are suffering, more than 50 percent of current teachers in this country are baby boomers,” Fisch explains. “Therefore the projections for jobs in education are still strong.”

Fisch will be on hand to open the event with a brief presentation, after which attendees will have time to see for themselves which of these seven programs may be best for them:

• Childhood education (M.S.)
• Childhood and special education (M.S.)
• Adolescence education (M.S.)
• Adolescence and special education (M.S.)
• Special education (M.S.)
• Leadership and instruction for inclusive classrooms (M.S.Ed.)
• Educational leadership and administration (M.S.)

Representatives from the offices of admissions and financial aid will also be present at the open house, which will begin with a dessert reception at 5:30 p.m. in the Library Concourse.

It is free, and any member of the community who have earned a bachelor’s degree, regardless of current occupation, is invited to attend.
