Utica, NY (02/21/2010) - The Womyn’s Resource Center at Utica College will kick off National Women’s History Month with its annual “In Celebration of Women” luncheon, Tuesday, March 2, at 11:30 a.m. in the Library Concourse.

Debra Schultz, historian and author of “Going South: Jewish Women in the Civil Rights Movement,” will give the keynote presentation, “The Politics of Memory for Women’s Activism.” This presentation will be the first of several events sponsored by the Womyn’s Resource Center in March in keeping with this year’s theme of “Writing Women Back into History.”

Along with being a published author, Schultz also taught history and women’s studies at the New School, Rutgers University, and LaGuardia Community College. She is also a Writing Fellow at the City University of New York Graduate Center. She is currently working on an oral-history based book about European Roma (“Gypsy”) women activists, fulfilling part of her deep interests in intersections of race, ethnicity and gender.

The luncheon is $15 per person, and reservations must be made by Wednesday, Feb. 24.

For additional information, contact Suhayl Santana in the Womyn’s Resource Center at 792-3327 or ssantan08@utica.edu, or Alane Varga at 792-3100 or avarga@utica.edu.
