Utica, NY (02/10/2010) - Utica College students will perform the celebrated play, “The Vagina Monologues,” on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Strebel Student Center Auditorium. Tickets are $7 for the general public and will be available at the door. One of the directors or the play, UC student Arsenio Stenbridge, said 90 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to YWCA’s Hall House in Utica, while 10 percent will go back to the V-Day Campaign.
The play is performed by a cast of only women in a performance intended to raise awareness about violence against women and girls around the world.
Eve Ensler, author of the Vagina Monologues, based the play on interviews with more than 200 women. Ensler said her goal was to inspire members of the audience to make a change in the growing problem of violence against women.
While the primary goal is for the audience to enjoy themselves, Stenbridge said, he also hopes they learn something at the same time.
