Utica, NY (10/13/2009) - A dishonorably discharged Afghanistan War veteran, a well-to-do businessman with an uncontrollable temper, and a beautifully bored, often beaten, wife all come together in a twist of fate to create the love-triangle that makes Jerichow a dramatic thriller and a must-see feature. Film@UC will present the 2008 Christian Petzold film on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in Macfarlane Auditorium, DePerno Hall, Utica College. The film is free and open to the public.
After returning home from the war in Afghanistan to Jerichow, a small town in Germany, Thomas finds himself overwhelmed with the debt of his deceased mother and without a job for financial support. As luck would have it Thomas meets Ali, a local businessman who happens to be a drunk. In need of a driver in his drunken state Ali hires Thomas as his personal chauffer and deliveryman for his businesses. Ali, always untrusting of those who work for him, took a special liking to Thomas. Little did Ali know that along the way Thomas would fall for his wife Laura and their friendship would blossom into a dangerous love affair.
Join Film@UC to watch as the love triangle develops and lines become blurred. With a running time of 93 minutes, Jerichow is a suspenseful reworking of the classic film The Post Man Always Rings Twice. “Petzold, who has a crisp style and sharp sense of the visual, is too talented and imaginative to allow his film to become predictable,” said Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times. “Rather, Jerichow offers implicit, sardonic social comment as well as a compelling playing out of the eternal triangle.” For more information, visit www.utica.edu/academic/ssm/communicationarts/film.
