Utica, NY (05/13/2009) -     The Utica College campus will close on Wednesday, May 20 due to a scheduled campus-wide power outage.
The planned shutdown will enable Utica College to complete electrical work to connect to a new co-generation power plant to be shared with Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare. The $13 million, 3.6-megawatt facility will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, provide more reliable services for hospital patients and college students, and help reduce the demand each institution places on the local utility grid. The plant, owned and operated by Burrstone Energy Center, LLC, is located on the Faxton-St. Luke’s campus and is expected to be fully operational this summer.
President Todd S. Hutton has authorized the shut down of power across the entire campus, including off-campus buildings Champlin House, Burrstone House and 610 French Road offices. Campus safety and facilities staff members will be working that day.
Offices are scheduled to open as usual on May 21.
