Regional Science Fair Winners Announced


Students From Clinton, Poland, JFK Take Top Honors

Junior and senior high school students present impressive science projects; win many awards

Utica, NY (04/02/2009) - The ideas and experiments of nearly 50 of the area’s budding young scientists were on display this past weekend at the 31st annual Utica College Regional Science Fair presented by Pratt & Whitney – HMI Metal Powders, a United Technologies Company.
 
The senior level grand champion of the fair is Alyssa Devine, a 10th grade student from Clinton Central School for “The Effects of Exercise on Human Intelligence.” Senior runner-up grand champion is Matthew Borner, a 10th grade student from Poland Central School for “Rocket Aerodynamics.” The junior level grand champion is Josef Byrne, a 7th grade student from John F. Kennedy Middle School for “Which Material Insulates the Best?”

Devine will be offered a scholarship of two years at half tuition at Utica College, organizers said, among other prizes. Borner will be offered a one-year scholarship of half tuition at UC, and Byrne will be offered $500 in remitted tuition at the college.
